        "content": "<p>Korean replaces Adrianus<\/p>\n<p>UNITED NATIONS (AP): Secretary-General Kofi Annan has<br>\nappointed South Korean economist Hak Su-kim as executive<br>\nsecretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and<br>\nthe Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>Kim, currently ambassador at large for international economic<br>\naffairs, will replace Adrianus Mooy, a former governor of the<br>\ncentral bank of Indonesia, whose term expires on June 30, UN<br>\nspokesman David Wimhurst said.<\/p>\n<p>The commission, known as ESCAP, is based in Bangkok and<br>\nfocuses on regional economic cooperation, environmental<br>\nprotection, and poverty alleviation through economic growth and<br>\nsocial development.<\/p>\n<p>Kim, who will have the rank of undersecretary-general, began<br>\nhis career in 1960 as a central bank economist, worked in private<br>\nbanking, and has experience in development planning and<br>\ninternational organizations.<\/p>",
