Korea Telecom form Asia network<\/p>\n
SEOUL (Reuters): South Korean telecom giant Korea Telecom said
\non Tuesday it has formed an Internet network service with seven
\nother major telecom carriers in Asia to provide direct Internet
\naccess around the region.<\/p>\n
The seven other companies involved are Japan's KDD Corp,
\nSingapore Telecommunications Ltd, PT Indosat Tbk of Indonesia,
\nPhilippines Long Distance Telephone Co, Telekom Malaysia Berhad,
\nthe Communication Authority of Thailand and Chunghwa Telecom Co
\nLtd of Taiwan.<\/p>\n
The Internet network, called AIN (Asian Internet Network),
\nwill enable Internet users to have direct access to the region's
\nweb sites.<\/p>\n
Until now, Internet connections had to pass through the United
\nStates.<\/p>\n
The service will cover the transmission of voice, data, video
\nand fax communications, with its commencement set for June 15.<\/p>\n
Korea Telecom said the Asia-oriented cyber networks will help
\nexpand the region's Internet business and provide better quality
\nInternet services.<\/p>\n
The full-mesh AIN network will have an initial bandwidth of
\n512 Kbps or higher up to 45 Mbps depending on traffic volume,
\nKorea Telecom said in a statement.<\/p>",
