Korea donates to ASEAN Foundation<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Diplomatic notes were signed here for a
\nUS$200,000 contribution by the Republic of Korea to the ASEAN
\nFoundation on Monday.<\/p>\n
The donation was handed over in a signing ceremony between the
\nchairman of the foundation's board of trustees, Somphand
\nKokilanon, and Korean Ambassador Hong Jung-pyo.<\/p>\n
\"With the contribution, the ASEAN Foundation will move forward
\nto promote ASEAN awareness among people of Southeast Asia,
\nstrengthening relations with people of North Asia,\" Kokilanon
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He said the foundation -- now in its second year of operation
\n-- was conducting several projects in the areas of civil
\nservices, small and medium enterprises and education.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Hong said the donation was part of his country's
\ncommitment to further enhance ties with Association of Southeast
\nAsian Nations (ASEAN) members.<\/p>\n
\"Our government would like this fund to be utilized to assist
\nin the implementation of the human resources development,\" Hong
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Korea-ASEAN trade reached $24.4 billion last year, making
\nASEAN Korea's fourth largest trading partner, while Korea is the
\nthird largest investor in ASEAN.<\/p>\n
The Korean government is currently committed to 21 projects
\nworth a total of $356 million in four ASEAN countries, the
