Kopassus impostor busted in hotel raid<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A man posing as a member of the Army's special
\nforce (Kopassus) was arrested in a hotel room for illegal
\npossession of two guns, a grenade and dozens of bullets, an
\nofficer said on Friday.<\/p>\n
City Police Detectives Chief Sr. Comr. Hary Montolalu said the
\nman, identified as Boyke Praman Jaya Runturambi, was arrested at
\n11 p.m. on Monday in a room on the 31st floor of a five-star
\nhotel on Jl. Jend. Sudirman, Central Jakarta, during a raid led
\nby chief of the police's criminal unit Adj. Comr. Didik Suyadi.<\/p>\n
\"We seized a military-standard FN-45 pistol, dozens of bullets
\nand military clothing in the room,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Hary said police then checked the 27-year-old suspect's house
\nin the state electricity company PLN housing complex, Senayan,
\nCentral Jakarta, where they found several more military items,
\nincluding six military knives and Kopassus uniforms.<\/p>\n
Police then went to the house of Boyke's parents in the
\nJakarta Military Command housing complex, where they seized two
\nbullet-proof jackets and more ammunition, he said.<\/p>\n
Besides claiming to be a Kopassus member, the suspect once
\nintroduced himself as a security manager of PT SA Water
\nIndonesia, said Hary.<\/p>\n
\"People believed that Boyke was a Kopassus member because he
\nalways carried a gun,\" he said.<\/p>\n
During preliminary questioning, the suspect admitted to having
\nobtained the guns from a man, identified as Agus, who resided in
\nthe Kopassus housing complex in Cijantung, East Jakarta. Police
\nare still looking for Agus.<\/p>\n
Boyke said he obtained bullets from members of the Indonesian
\nTarget Shooting and Hunting Association (Perbakin) while the
\ngrenade was obtained from an Army officer, identified as
\nImansyah, in exchange for an FN-45 pistol.<\/p>\n
The suspect claimed that his Kopassus identification card was
\nordered from an officer named Suyatno in 1999, but the latter has
\ndenied issuing the card.<\/p>\n
Harry said the arrest of Boyke was made following a police
\nblitz designed to counter increasing occurrences of armed robbery
\nin the city.<\/p>\n
He said the suspect had violated the Emergency Law 12\/1951 on
\nillegal possession of guns and explosive materials, which carries
\na maximum penalty of the death sentence. (jun)<\/p>",
