Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing\nPersons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), was attacked with caustic\nacid by an unknown assailant in the Salemba area of Central Jakarta.\nDeputy Chair of House Commission III Ahmad Sahroni has called for a\nthorough investigation into the attack.<\/p>\n
\u201cI request that the police immediately conduct a comprehensive\ninvestigation to identify the perpetrator and mastermind behind this\nattack and clarify the motive,\u201d Sahroni told journalists on Friday, 13\nMarch 2026.<\/p>\n
According to Sahroni, the acid attack on the KontraS activist is\nhighly damaging to democracy. This is especially concerning given the\nvictim\u2019s previous activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuch terror is extremely harmful to our democratic climate.\nParticularly if the motive is connected to the victim\u2019s activism,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
The acid attack allegedly occurred on Thursday, 12 March at\napproximately 23.30 WIB on Jalan Salemba, Senen, Central Jakarta. Police\nare currently investigating suspected aggravated assault.<\/p>\n
Investigators are conducting a series of investigative steps,\nincluding examination of the crime scene and collection of digital\nevidence such as CCTV footage. So far, two witnesses have been\ninterviewed, with the possibility of additional witnesses being called\nas the investigation deepens.<\/p>\n
Andrie Yunus sustained severe injuries. He suffered burns to his\nface, chest, and hands.<\/p>\n
Police Guarantee Thorough Investigation<\/p>\n
The National Police guarantee the case will be fully investigated.\nOfficers have already reviewed CCTV footage and interviewed several\nwitnesses.<\/p>\n

Isir stated that the case is being handled by the Central Jakarta\nPolice. He noted that Metro Jaya Regional Police and the Criminal\nInvestigation Directorate are assisting to accelerate the\ninvestigation.<\/p>\n
