KONI seeks input on SEA Games team lineup<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The National Sports Council (KONI) will invite
\ncoaches and sports officials to provide input on its team lineup
\nfor the 20th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Brunei Darussalam
\nnext month.<\/p>\n

\nHindarto said on Friday that he would listen to the opinions of
\ncoaches and officials from 20 sports on Monday before setting up
\na tentative lineup.<\/p>\n
Results of the discussion will be brought to KONI's chairman
\nWismoyo Arismunandar on Tuesday for approval.<\/p>\n
Hindarto said he would fly to Bandar Seri Begawan on Friday to
\npersonally submit the team lineup to Games organizers. The
\ndeadline for entries is July 10.<\/p>\n
"The reason I am calling coaches and officials is because I
\nneed to listen to second opinions from them. I can't make the
\ndecision myself. Hopefully we can get the chairman's approval on
\nWednesday at the latest," he told a news conference after a
\nmeeting with officials in charge of supervising the 20 sports in
\nwhich Indonesia will compete.<\/p>\n
They are badminton, basketball, billiards and snooker, boxing,
\ncycling, golf, hockey, karate, pencak silat, sepak takraw,
\nshooting, soccer, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo,
\ntennis, tenpin bowling, track and field and traditional boat
\nracing.<\/p>\n
Most sports organizations have submitted the names of their
\nathletes. The exceptions are track and field, tennis and soccer.<\/p>\n
Hindarto said 11 sports set a gold-medal target in the
\nbiennial event from Aug. 7 to Aug. 15, with the remaining nine
\nsports still in doubt over their goals. He declined to identify
\nthe sports.<\/p>\n
Hindarto complained that several sports, mainly team event
\nsports, had yet to set up competitive trials.<\/p>\n
"For example, the hockey team has yet to stage domestic or
\ninternational tryouts. It's really difficult for us to know if
\nathletes have teamwork during the competition. Teamwork is the
\nmost important aspect in team events apart from physical and
\nmental conditioning, physical endurance and technical skills."<\/p>\n
The Indonesian Hockey Association (PHSI) has yet to arrange a
\nschedule of tryouts. Its Jakarta chapter offered to hold a tryout
\nhere, but new PHSI chairman Primadi Tabrani declined on the
\ngrounds the national team was far superior.<\/p>\n
Hindarto threatened to expel athletes who were not living up
\nto their potential or failed to show progress.<\/p>\n
"Last week was the latest time for them to show if they really
\nare prepared for the Games. I have all their records," he said.<\/p>\n
KONI is also seeking input from journalists invited to attend
\na discussion on Saturday. The discussion will focus on the
\npossibility for Indonesia to retain its overall title and win
\nmore than 70 golds.<\/p>\n
SEA Games training executive director Imron Z.S. said some of
\nthe teams performed poorly during training, but he refused to
