KONI bans PABBSI from handling b'building<\/p>\n

After having been stripped of its membership in Asian and
\ninternational bodybuilding associations, the Indonesian
\nWeightlifting, Powerlifting and Bodybuilding Association (PABBSI)
\nhas now been banned from organizing bodybuilding events at home.<\/p>\n
The decision was taken in a meeting held by the National
\nSports Council (KONI) here on Friday.<\/p>\n
Council vice chairwoman Rita Subowo said the council had
\ndecided to ban PABBSI from supervising bodybuilding programs in
\nthe country.<\/p>\n
\"The ban is effective as of today,\" Rita said.<\/p>\n
PABBSI officials were invited to the meeting but did not
\nattend.<\/p>\n
An official said KONI might reconsider reinstating PABBSI's
\nmembership if the latter could affiliate with a world
\nbodybuilding association before KONI's annual meeting in January.<\/p>\n
Affiliation with a world body is a criteria for a sport
\norganization's membership in KONI.<\/p>\n
PABBSI was kicked out of the Asian Bodybuilding Federation
\n(ABBF) and the International Bodybuilding Federation (IBBF) last
\nyear after PABBSI supported Musclemania, an international
\nbodybuilding event the two international bodies did not endorse.<\/p>\n
PABBSI is appealing to the ABBF but the latter is unlikely to
\nrepeal its decision as it has now endorsed the newly established
\nIndonesian Bodybuilding Federation.<\/p>\n
This means PABBSI will be prevented from running the
\nbodybuilding competition at the upcoming National Games (PON) in
\nPalembang, South Sumatera next month. The competition will be
\nheld under the auspices of KONI.<\/p>\n
Another organization denied entry to the PON games is the
\nIndonesian Hockey Association (PHSI), which does not have the
\nminimum 10 provincial chapters required for its participation.<\/p>\n
The PHSI has branches in West Java, East Java, North Sumatera,
\nWest Sumatera, Lampung and Papua.<\/p>\n
The group claimed to have set up another four chapters in
\nNanggroe Aceh Darussalam, South Sumatera, Banten and Central Java
\nbut KONI requires the PHSI to hold an extraordinary meeting to
\nverify the new memberships.<\/p>\n
\"If the PHSI fails to hold an extraordinary meeting by
\nDecember then KONI will cancel its membership,\" head of
\norganizational affairs Hendardji said on Friday.<\/p>",
