        "content": "<p>The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has revealed the\nrecovery process for Andrie Yunus, an activist from KontraS who became a\nvictim of an acid attack. The recovery is estimated to last up to two\nyears.<\/p>\n<p>Komnas HAM Monitoring and Investigation Commissioner Saurlin P.\nSiagian conveyed the findings from the medical team. He indicated that\nAndrie Yunus\u2019s injuries are categorised as burns caused by a strong\nacidic chemical substance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSurgeries are still ongoing and will continue for the next six\nmonths to two years for recovery,\u201d said Saurlin in Jakarta, as reported\nby Antara on Friday (27\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the first six months represent a crucial period in\ndetermining the direction of Andrie Yunus\u2019s recovery. This is\nparticularly important to ensure the stability of the wound condition\nand the body\u2019s response to further medical treatments.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Komnas HAM Mediation Commissioner Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi\nadded that the medical handling carried out so far has been intensive\nand measured. Nevertheless, several specific conditions, especially on\nthe victim\u2019s right eye, are still under analysis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey cannot yet conclude whether there is a decline or improvement;\nthat is still in process,\u201d said Ubaid.<\/p>\n<p>Komnas HAM\u2019s investigation also covers short-term and long-term\nimpacts, both physical and psychological, as the basis for preparing\nrecommendations for victim rights protection-based handling.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the National Central Public Hospital Dr Cipto\nMangunkusumo (RSCM) in Jakarta revealed the latest medical condition of\nthe victim, showing serious challenges in tissue recovery.<\/p>\n<p>RSCM Legal and Public Relations Manager Yoga Nara explained that the\nmedical team found ischaemia in around 40 percent of the area below the\nright eye\u2019s sclera, causing tissue thinning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Wednesday, 25 March 2026, at 10:00 WIB, the patient underwent an\nintegrated surgical procedure involving ophthalmology and plastic\nsurgery specialists,\u201d said Yoga.<\/p>\n<p>During the surgery, tissue relocation, attachment of an amniotic\nmembrane, and re-installation of an eye protector were performed to\nrepair the eye\u2019s surface.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, debridement and skin grafting were carried out on the\nburn areas around the eye, chest, and shoulder to accelerate\nhealing.<\/p>\n<p>RSCM stated that the current focus of treatment is to maintain the\nintegrity of the right eyeball and control the ongoing inflammatory\nprocess, with close monitoring by a multidisciplinary medical team.<\/p>",
