Komnas HAM on bomb attack<\/p>\n

The terrorist bomb attack on the JW Marriott Hotel in
\nKuningan, Jakarta on Aug. 5 -- which resulted in the deaths of at
\nleast 10 people and dozens injured, as well as material
\ndestruction -- is a direct violation of human rights such as the
\nright to life, which can in no way be derogated, the right to
\nfreedom from fear and the right to security.<\/p>\n
The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) strongly
\ncondemns the bombing and offers condolences to all victims and
\ntheir families. At the same time, we make the following appeal:<\/p>\n
The government should thoroughly investigate the case and take
\nstern action against perpetrators of the bombing. It should also
\nmake effective prevention efforts by intensifying the state
\nintelligence operation.<\/p>\n
The public should avoid provocation and increase alertness in
\nrelevant environs, while supporting security personnel in
\nperforming their duty.<\/p>\n
Developments in the government's investigation should be
\nannounced publicly in an accurate and comprehensive manner, so
\nthat the public will be dissuaded from listening to rumors, which
\nmight increase insecurity and fear.<\/p>\n
