Komnas HAM member Amiruddin Al Rahab has stated that corruption is a\nreal threat to the fulfilment and protection of human rights (HAM).\nAccording to him, corruption also hampers the provision of basic\nservices such as education and health.<\/p>\n
This was conveyed by Amir during the launch of the Komnas HAM Study\non Corruption and the Restoration of Human Rights Violations on Tuesday\n(21\/7\/2026). He emphasised that corruption is a serious threat.<\/p>\n
\u201cCorruption is one of the real threats to the fulfilment and\nprotection of human rights,\u201d Amir said.<\/p>\n
He explained that corruption constitutes a violation of human rights\nthat creates victims. In this regard, citizens\u2019 rights have already been\nviolated.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll parties must begin to realise that when a corruption offence\noccurs, citizens\u2019 rights have already been violated. Corruption harms\nstate finances intended to fulfil and protect citizens\u2019 rights,\u201d Amir\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Amir also highlighted that discussions regarding the link between the\nimpact of corruption and the fulfilment of human rights are not yet\nwidespread.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor almost 20 years, we have been busy discussing corruption from a\ncriminal perspective but have not yet entered the realm of human rights.\nHow then can the government adopt that perspective? If we do not realise\nthe problem of corruption to that extent, we will just stop there,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
According to Amir, corruption is an act capable of paralysing the\nstate\u2019s ability to fulfil human rights.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Komnas HAM study is important because it does not only discuss\ncorruption from a criminal perspective. It positions corruption as an\nact that can paralyse the state\u2019s ability to fulfil human rights,\u201d he\nstated.<\/p>\n
Amir considers corruption a serious threat to human rights.\nTherefore, he believes the human rights aspect needs to be considered as\nan aggravating factor.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the future, can the impact on human rights become an aggravating\nfactor? So that those who intend to commit corruption will think twice.\nThey are a major threat to human rights,\u201d Amir said.<\/p>\n
He hopes various parties will pay serious attention to the impact of\ncorruption. He also stressed the importance of placing human rights as\nthe foundation and main principle in governance.<\/p>\n
