        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ministry of Communication and Digital\n(Komdigi) has revealed that cases of violence against women in the\ndigital space have been steadily increasing in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCases of violence against women in the digital space have been\nsteadily increasing in recent years, with an average of around 2,000\nreports each year,\u201d said Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya\nHafid in her statement on Thursday (16\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Meutya stated that the most dominant form of violence is sexual\nviolence that is not physical, but rather non-physical or online.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the latest study (on online sexual violence), it reached more\nthan 1,600 cases,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>Meutya stressed that the digital space must not become a place that\nallows violence to occur without response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the crime happens on the platform, that is their home. That\nmeans those handling it inside are them. We cannot enter unless with\ncertain authority,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Meutya added that the government has the authority to impose\nsanctions if content or activities on the platform are deemed to\nendanger the public.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in the latest case, a sexual harassment incident in the\ndigital space came to light following the contents of a conversation\ngroup with 16 members from the Faculty of Law at the University of\nIndonesia (UI).<\/p>\n<p>The conversation group was known to have originated from a boarding\nhouse group named \u201cBasecamp Puri Asih,\u201d created in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>However, in its development, the group turned into a conversation\nspace containing harassment-laden content.<\/p>\n<p>From the investigation, the number of victims in this case reached 27\npeople, consisting of 20 female students and seven lecturers.<\/p>\n<p>All victims are from the Faculty of Law at UI.<\/p>",
