Minister\nMeutya Hafid said the policy follows the issuance of derivative rules\nfrom Government Regulation No.\u00a017 of 2025 on the Governance of\nElectronic System Providers in Child Protection (PP Tunas). The\nregulation is presented as a measure to strengthen child protection in\nthe digital space. \u2018Through this regulation, the government will delay\naccess by children under 16 to high-risk digital platforms, including\nsocial media and networking services,\u2019 Meutya said in the Komdigi\nofficial statement on Friday, 6 March 2026. The deputy chairperson of\nthe Golkar Party claimed the policy makes Indonesia one of the first\nnon-Western countries to impose age-based restrictions on access to\ndigital platforms, arguing that the policy protects children from\ndigital threats. \u2018Children face increasingly real threats, from\npornography exposure, cyberbullying, online scams, to addiction,\u2019 she\nsaid. Meutya said the policy would start on 28 March 2026. In the\ninitial phase, accounts held by children under 16 on digital platforms\nwould be deactivated gradually. The platforms include YouTube, TikTok,\nFacebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live and Roblox. Meutya noted that\nthe deactivation would be conducted gradually until all platforms\ncomplied with the obligations in the regulation.
