        "content": "<p>The Indonesian Navy\u2019s Regional Naval Command IV (Kodaeral IV) in\nBatam, Riau Islands, has established a Quick Response Naval Command\n(QRNC) to speed up responses to emergencies, including maritime\nviolations in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff\u2019s Assistant for Intelligence, Rear\nAdmiral Andy Kriswanto, said the QRNC would serve as Kodaeral IV\u2019s\nrapid-response unit, supporting operations at sea, particularly against\nsmuggling and other violations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuick Response Naval Command has been set up by Kodaeral IV to reach\nincidents such as smuggling and other violations at sea. It is hoped the\nQRNC will help with enforcement operations at sea,\u201d Andy said at the\nKodaeral IV Coastal Defence Unit headquarters in Batam on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Kodaeral IV is also preparing a natural-disaster response task force\nto help the government deal with disasters affecting communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe disaster-response task force will focus on disaster management,\nrescue and humanitarian assistance, while the QRNC task force will focus\non rapid responses to security developments and incidents requiring\nimmediate action,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Andy said Indonesia faces various potential disasters due to weather\nconditions and seasonal changes. The El Ni\u00f1o phenomenon is currently\nincreasing the risk of forest and land fires in several areas.<\/p>\n<p>Kodaeral IV held a natural-disaster preparedness assembly attended by\nits commander, Rear Admiral Berkat Widjanarko, the deputy commander, the\ninspector, senior officials and personnel from relevant units.<\/p>\n<p>The event included checks of personnel, equipment and supporting\nsupplies to ensure they could be deployed quickly and in a coordinated\nmanner during an emergency.<\/p>\n<p>The rapid-response teams\u2019 formation is also part of Military\nOperations Other Than War (OMSP), particularly efforts to support\ndisaster management, evacuations and humanitarian assistance for the\npublic.<\/p>",
