Kochi invites Indonesia to use its ports<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the
\nJapanese town of Kochi yesterday offered an opportunity to
\nIndonesia to use its ports as a gateway of plywood and seafood
\nexports to Japan.<\/p>\n
Tajiro Irimajiri, vice chairman of the chamber, told the press
\nafter signing an agreement with the Jakarta chapter of the
\nIndonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) that sea port
\nfacilities in Kochi are being restored to accommodate large
\nships.<\/p>\n
Kochi has three major ports -- Kochi, Susaki and kumowan.<\/p>\n
\"The Indonesian Association Wood Panels (Apkindo) through its
\nOsaka office has appointed Kochi as one of the Japanese gateways.
\nSome of the Indonesian plywood, therefore, enters Japan through
\nKochi,\" Irimajiri said.<\/p>\n
He explained that 2,000 cubic meters of plywood enter Japan
\nevery month through Kochi.<\/p>\n
Japan imports about 300,000 cubic meters of plywood from
\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
\"When the expansion project is completed, the port can
\naccommodate around 30,000 to 40,000 cubic meters plywood per
\nmonth,\" Irimajiri Added.<\/p>\n
Shinichi Yoshimura, chairman of the Kochi chamber, said that
\nthe agreement signed yesterday calls for the two institutions to
\nencourage the exchange of human resources and information and to
\npromote trade and investment ties.<\/p>\n
The signing ceremony was attended by Mayor of Kochi Tatsuo
\nYokoyama and vice chairmen of Kadin Adiwarsita Adinegoro and Iman
