KNU area<\/p>\n
We thank The Jakarta Post (Feb. 22, 1995) for carrying the
\nreport on the fall of Kawmoora, but regret to point out that
\nReuter's reports from Thailand on the subject have been
\nconsistent in interviewing and quoting only the views of the
\nKaren National Union (KNU) terrorists-remnants.<\/p>\n
There is not an inch of area under the control of the KNU in
\nMyanmar anymore. A few may cross and recross the rugged 2400 km
\nregion of the Thai-Myanmar border. But Thai and Myanmar
\nauthorities, and the Democratic Kayin Buddhist Army (DKBO), will
\nensure that future KNU terrorist activities will be effectively
\nabsent.<\/p>\n
To date, over 6,000 Kayin men, women and children have
\nreturned to Myanmar and many more wish to do so. They are being
\nwarmly received by local authorities and the DKBO.<\/p>\n
Stability, peace and tranquility have at last dawned on
\nMyanmar. After 53 years of turbulence; of foreign armies fighting
\non its soil, violations of its sovereignty, and continuous
\ninterference it its internal affairs by outside powers.<\/p>\n
Most importantly, Myanmar-Thai relations will now take-off to
\nthe highest levels of friendship, mutual-trust and all-round
\ncooperation for the benefit of both countries and its peoples:
\nand this will undoubtedly benefit the region and Asia.<\/p>\n
