Officials from the 2026 Economic Census of the Klungkung Regency\nCentral Bureau of Statistics (BPS) have found that residents remain\nworried about tax matters during the data collection process. This has\nbecome a notable observation for BPS Klungkung during their re-surveying\nefforts in the field.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe community is hesitant because they fear taxes. Various news\nreports have shaped their opinions, leading to anxiety regarding the\narrival of officers. However, over time, this anxiety has decreased as\nmore people are surveyed, proving that this census is safe,\u201d said the\nHead of BPS Klungkung, Anak Agung Gede Dirga Kardita, during an\ninterview on Wednesday (2\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
According to him, insufficient socialisation was also a factor that\nmade the public susceptible to information on social media. As a result,\nofficers initially faced difficulties entering several areas to conduct\ndata collection.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe obstacle in the field was perhaps insufficient socialisation,\ncausing the community to be easily provoked by social media information.\nIn the beginning, the challenge was very significant. Our officers found\nit difficult to enter because respondent trust was still wavering,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
However, as time progressed and more residents were surveyed, these\nconcerns gradually subsided. Another challenge faced by BPS Kloungkung\nis the presence of head offices for several tourism entrepreneurs\u2014such\nas those in Nusa Penida and Lembongan\u2014who are domiciled outside the\nregion, such as in Denpasar or Jakarta.<\/p>\n
This situation requires a relatively long process of communication\nand coordination. Additionally, the high intensity of traditional and\nreligious activities in Bali during the data collection period also\naffected field operations.<\/p>\n
\u201cJuly and August are months with many holidays, so the community\u2019s\nbusy schedule acted as a hindrance. Our officers feel hesitant or\nuncomfortable visiting homes during religious holidays or cremation\nceremonies (Ngaben). On the other hand, residents are also busy,\u201d he\nnoted.<\/p>\n
The data verification process (on desk), which is running\nsimultaneously with field re-surveys, aims to ensure the validity of the\nenumeration figures.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor example, there might be a coffee trader whose turnover is\nrecorded as very large because an officer incorrectly entered an extra\nzero. What should have been Rp 100,000 was entered as Rp 100 million.\nThat is what we are currently checking through on-desk verification,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Dirga Kardita ensured that all economic activities\u2014including hotels,\nhomestays, individual businesses, both licensed and unlicensed\u2014will be\ncomprehensively recorded.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether they have a permit or not, whether they are individuals or\nentrepreneurs, whether they reside in Klungkung or not, everything will\ndefinitely be captured and the data will be available later,\u201d concluded\nDirga Kardita.<\/p>\n
He also emphasised that the end of the census schedule on 31 August\ndoes not mean the data collection process stops immediately without\nevaluation. He has instructed all officers to re-survey the data\ncollection areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe end of the schedule does not necessarily mean it is final. The\nconcept of a census is that nothing should be missed; everyone must be\nenumerated. The difference from a survey, which only takes samples, is\nthat a census must cover everything,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n
This re-surveying is being conducted alongside on-desk data\nverification by the BPS team at the office to minimise numerical input\nerrors. The agency is currently tidying up all data received from the\nfield.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are re-tabulating everything today. Tomorrow or later tonight, we\nwill have the definitive data,\u201d added Dirga Kardita.<\/p>\n
