KLM's cargo information<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): KLM Cargo, the Dutch freight carrier, introduced
\nyesterday a cargo information service which will allow agents in
\nIndonesia electronic access to the company's Netherlands
\ndatabase.<\/p>\n
An executive of KLM Cargo's Jakarta office, Agnes C.S.
\nSutanto, told The Jakarta Post yesterday that the company has 30
\nagents in Jakarta, 20 in Bali and 10 in Surabaya, East Java.<\/p>\n
"The agents will have to install a modem facility in their
\ncomputer systems and then use KLM's special diskette to enter the
\ndatabase through local telephone calls," she said, adding that
\nthe service is designed to save time and money.<\/p>\n
The cargo information service will allow agents to get
\nimportant information on timetables for air cargo planning and
\nscheduling; rates; charges; transport conditions; and device
\ncapacity. It will also enable them to make booking requests
\ndirectly with KLM Cargo.<\/p>\n
Agnes said that KLM Cargo handles between 300 tons and 400
\ntons of cargo from Indonesia per annum, most of which consists of
\ngarments, shoes and decorative fish.<\/p>\n
KLM currently operates eight flights between Amsterdam and
\nJakarta per week, using Boeing B-747-400 and B-747-400 Combi
\naircraft. One of the services is a freight operation. (icn)<\/p>",
