Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has sealed the\nwastewater discharge pipe belonging to PT Mega Surya Eratama in the\nPorong River, Mojokerto Regency, East Java, as a rapid response to\npublic complaints regarding river pollution.<\/p>\n
Head of the Law Enforcement Centre (Gakkum) of KLH Surabaya, Arief\nHilman Arda, in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday, said the\nSupervisory Team of the Environmental Law Enforcement Centre (BPHLH) for\nthe Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara regions, together with the\nEnvironmental Agency (DLH) of Mojokerto Regency, conducted field\nverification with sampling of wastewater and water bodies on 22 and 23\nJuly 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on test results of samples taken by the Supervisory Team and\nDLH of Mojokerto Regency, water quality parameters were found to exceed\nthe required quality standards. This finding is an important part of the\nverification process for suspected environmental pollution due to\nwastewater discharge into the Porong River,\u201d said Arief Hilman Arda.<\/p>\n
Laboratory test results proved that a number of water quality\nparameters exceeded the permitted quality standards. These critical\nparameters include high Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen\nDemand (COD), the number of pollution indicator bacteria (Total\nColiform), as well as exposure to oil and grease.<\/p>\n
The sealing ensures that the source of wastewater discharge\npotentially polluting the Porong River can be halted while the handling\nof the suspected violation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
All verification results, sampling, laboratory testing, and cessation\nmeasures, he said, are part of the environmental law enforcement process\nin accordance with statutory provisions.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery business activity is obliged to ensure that wastewater\nmanagement and disposal is carried out in accordance with statutory\nprovisions and does not cause environmental pollution. For suspected\nviolations found, we will take follow-up action in accordance with our\nauthority and applicable legal provisions,\u201d explained Ardyanto.<\/p>\n
He affirmed the commitment of KLH\/BPLH to continue strengthening\nsupervision and carrying out firm and measured environmental law\nenforcement against any party proven to have committed violations and\ncaused impacts on environmental quality.<\/p>\n
