        "content": "<p>KL wants navy exercises resumed<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia said on Monday that it hoped to<br>\nresume an annual joint navy exercise with Singapore shelved in<br>\n1997 amid the regional economic slump.<\/p>\n<p>Malaysia's navy chief Vice Admiral Abu Bakar Abdul Jamal said<br>\nthe exercise, code-named Malapura, was first held in 1984 to<br>\nboost bilateral working ties.<\/p>\n<p>Abu Bakar earlier met his Singapore counterpart, Rear Admiral<br>\nRichard Lim Cherng Yih, who arrived on Monday for a two-day<br>\nvisit, and told Bernama the two countries' navies enjoyed good<br>\nrelations.<\/p>\n<p>Both sides will take part in the \"Stardex\" exercise to be held<br>\nin September under the auspices of the Five-Power Defense<br>\nArrangement (FPDA) which also involves Australia, Britain and New<br>\nZealand, he added.<\/p>",
