KL, U.S. sign deals<\/p>\n
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher
\nyesterday watched the signing of several business deals here,
\nnotably one between the Malaysian national oil firm and
\nOccidental Petroleum.<\/p>\n
Christopher, who flew in early yesterday on 24-hour visit,
\nappeared at the signing of documents that gave Occidental a
\ncontract to supply liquefied natural gas to Petroliam Nasional
\nBhd (Petronas).<\/p>\n
Petronas was buying the gas for its third gas plant in eastern
\nSarawak state, but there were no further details on the value or
\nsize of the deal.<\/p>\n
Officials said he also witnessed the handing-over of a U.S.
\nflag to be hoisted above the soon-to-be-opened JW Marriott Hotel
\nin Kuala Lumpur, developed by the listed Taiping Consolidated
\ngroup.<\/p>\n
A contract awarded to a consortium of U.S.-based SMC-Jetways
\nSystems and Sime Engineering of Malaysia by the Kuala Lumpur
\nInternational Airport Bhd, undertaking Malaysia's second
\ninternational airport.<\/p>\n
The consortium is to install 30 passenger loading bridges, 40
\naircraft visual docking systems and 20 aircraft ground power
\nunits and other equipment with a total value of 84 million
\nringgit (US$33.6 million) at the Sepang airport south of here.<\/p>",
