        "content": "<p>KL pushes for ASEAN-plus secretariat<\/p>\n<p>MALAYSIA: Kuala Lumpur on Sunday pushed for ASEAN approval to <br>\nhouse a secretariat for the dialog process between the 10-member <br>\nSoutheast Asian grouping and China, Japan and South Korea, which <br>\nwas rejected last July by some member countries.<\/p>\n<p>\"Malaysia believes there should be a secretariat to handle <br>\nbigger issues beyond ASEAN. At the moment, the ASEAN secretariat <br>\n(in Jakarta) is certainly very overloaded,\" Deputy Prime Minister <br>\nAbdullah Ahmad Badawi told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Abdullah held a dialog session with some 30 young <br>\nASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) leaders on the <br>\nsidelines of the three-day East Asia Economic Summit.<\/p>\n<p>Abdullah said Malaysia felt that for the dialog process <br>\nbetween ASEAN and the three East Asian countries to be <br>\nmeaningful, a secretariat should be established to carry out <br>\nfollow-up activities.<\/p>\n<p>Among the countries that were strongly against Malaysia's <br>\nproposal were Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. --AFP<\/p>",
