        "content": "<p>KL police probe smuggling syndicate<\/p>\n<p>MALAYSIA: Malaysian police are investigating whether government<br>\nofficials are helping syndicates involved in human smuggling,<br>\nafter several traffickers and their foreign victims were<br>\nmysteriously released from detention, a newspaper said on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Three suspected operators of a trafficking network, 31 Chinese<br>\ncitizens traveling on stolen South Korean passports and two Sri<br>\nLankans using forged Malaysian passports were nabbed when they<br>\nflew into Turkey on Oct. 1 while trying to enter Europe, the New<br>\nSunday Times reported.<\/p>\n<p>Turkish airport authorities sent them back on a Malaysia<br>\nAirlines flight to their previous stop, Kuala Lumpur, where they<br>\nwere handed over to immigration officials, the newspaper said,<br>\nciting anonymous sources.<\/p>\n<p>However, the traffickers were then freed and allowed to fly to<br>\nThailand. The illegal immigrants were also released and given<br>\ndocuments allowing them to leave Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>Musa Hassan, Malaysia&apos;s police director of criminal<br>\ninvestigations, has ordered a probe into whether the incident<br>\nindicated that trafficking syndicates have enlisted the help of<br>\ncorrupt government officials, the report said.
