        "content": "<p>KL firm defers RI plant<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AP): Malaysia's electric company has deferred a<br>\njoint venture project to build a coal-fired power plant in<br>\nSumatra, Indonesia, because of the region's economic crisis, a<br>\nnews report said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>\"It is difficult to say when (the project can proceed), but we<br>\nare looking at a period of between 10 and 15 years,\" the national<br>\nnews agency Bernama quoted Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, executive chairman<br>\nof Tenaga Nasional Berhad, as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Demand for electricity in Malaysia has also slowed, Tajuddin<br>\ntold reporters in Kulim, about 400 kilometers (250 miles)<br>\nnorthwest of Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n<p>Many factories, the biggest users of electric power, had cut<br>\ntheir working hours due to lower demand for their products<br>\nlocally and overseas.<\/p>",
