        "content": "<p>KL banks have new scheme<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia's top six banks said yesterday<br>\nthey have established a scheme to finance indigenous Malay<br>\nbusinesses and complement government efforts to develop Malay<br>\nentrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p>Malayan Banking, Bank Bumiputra, Public Bank, United Malayan<br>\nBanking Corporation, DCB Bank and Bank of Commerce will set aside<br>\n210 million ringgit (US$84 million) for the scheme. Four of the<br>\nsix are listed on the local bourse.<\/p>\n<p>They said in a joint statement that the allocation could be<br>\nincreased if the need arose or with the participation of more<br>\nbanks in the consortium, with the possible inclusion of Arab<br>\nMalaysian Merchant Bank Bhd and Bank Utama.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme will go towards equity financing of share<br>\nacquisition by indigenous Malay or bumiputra companies in non-<br>\nbumiputra firms.<\/p>\n<p>It will also finance joint ventures between bumiputra- and<br>\nnon-bumiputra firms in development projects in selected<br>\nindustries like provision of infrastructure, electrical power and<br>\nmanufacturing.<\/p>",
