        "content": "<p>KISDI protests newspaper<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesia Committee for World Moslems<br>\nSolidarity (KISDI) has launched a protest against a national<br>\nnewspaper claiming that its editorial on violence in Algeria had<br>\nslandered Islam.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad Sumargono, KISDI's vice chairman, led a small delegation<br>\nof 10-people yesterday to the Ministry of Information to submit a<br>\nprotest letter to Minister of Information R Hartono.<\/p>\n<p>The letter was received by the minister's personal secretary.<\/p>\n<p>KISDI claimed that the Kompas newspaper's Aug. 28 and Sept. 2<br>\neditorials, which said the sadistic butchering in Algeria was<br>\ncarried out by the Islamic Salvation Front, was libel.<\/p>\n<p>\"This is cornering Moslems as if Moslems are brutal,\" Ahmad<br>\ntold reporters, adding that \"up till now, there has been no claim<br>\nof responsibility for the violence from any party.\"<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad called on the Ministry of Information to follow up<br>\nKISDI's protest.<\/p>\n<p>KISDI also called news reports from Algiers in The Jakarta<br>\nPost as \"reckless\".<\/p>\n<p>About 1,500 people have been killed in attacks attributed to<br>\nmilitants since early June in Algeria.
