King Hussein flies Soeharto on chopper<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto wound up his visit to Jordan
\nyesterday on a personal high note: he was flown from the palace
\nto the airport in Amman in a chopper piloted by King Hussein, his
\nhost for the last four days, TVRI reported.<\/p>\n
Joining in on the 15-minute chopper ride were Soeharto's two
\ndaughters, the state television said.<\/p>\n
The two leaders appeared to have struck a very cordial
\nrelationship at the end of the visit.<\/p>\n
Soeharto yesterday presented the Jordan king with a birthday
\ngift: Two Indonesian-made assault weapons: one long barrel and
\none short, both made by the Army-owned PT Pindad.<\/p>\n
King Hussein is an avid gun collector and shooting is one of
\nhis favorite pastimes, TVRI said.<\/p>\n
Soeharto used the Jordan visit to voice strong support for
\nArab nations and the creation of Palestinian state, AFP reported.<\/p>\n
He discussed with King Hussein the development of bilateral
\nrelations and the situation in the Middle East region,
\nparticularly the Arab-Israeli peace process.<\/p>\n
Soeharto called for the creation of a Palestinian state with
\nJerusalem as its capital, and said he supported Arab countries in
\n\"their struggle to regain the territories occupied by other
\nparties.\"<\/p>\n
The two countries signed a report by a joint economic
\ncommittee which aims to develop trade links, while Indonesia
\nexpressed its desire to boost imports of Jordanian potassium and
\nphosphate to 250,000 tons a year.<\/p>\n
The President proceeded to Rome, the second and last stop on
\nhis overseas trip, to take part in the World Food Summit.<\/p>\n
There was no stately reception to greet him when he arrived at
\nthe Rome airport after a four-hour flight on board the special
\nGaruda Indonesia plane.<\/p>\n
Today, the Indonesian leader is slated to address the summit,
\nwhich enters its third day. He is expected to explain the
\nIndonesian experience in attaining food self sufficiency while at
\nthe same time helping the lot of poor farmers.<\/p>\n
Officials said President Soeharto will pay a courtesy call on
\nhis Italian counterpart and hold bilateral meetings with a number
\nof leaders taking part in the summit. (emb)<\/p>",
