On June 21, 2002 my driver drove my parents to Cipanas, West
\nJava in a Toyota Kijang van. Both of them had just been
\ndischarged from hospital for different illnesses. The rear seat
\nwas folded to give room for a wheelchair, a bag of clothes, a
\nsmall TV and some other necessities for my parents.<\/p>\n
In Ciawi, however, a traffic policeman stopped the car and
\nsaid that my driver had violated a traffic regulation because we
\nwere carrying goods in a passenger car. The policeman argued that
\na special van had to be used for carrying goods. However, the
\nwheelchair and the other things placed at the rear did not
\nprevent the driver from seeing out the back. The policeman
\ninsisted we were wrong.<\/p>\n
Toyota Kijang is frequently touted in TV commercials and
\nadvertisements as a car with a rear section spacious enough for a
\nbathtub.<\/p>\n
Therefore, PT Astra International as the producer\/assembler of
\nKijang vans must clarify this matter. If, indeed, carrying things
\nin the back of vans is against traffic regulations, Astra must
\nchange the design of the rear seat in such a way that it cannot
\nbe folded.<\/p>\n
