Kids turn their lens on Jakarta<\/p>\n
In conjunction with the celebration of Jakarta's 476th
\nanniversary, the Sacred Bridge Foundation will hold an exhibition
\nof the works of young people at the Japan Foundation.<\/p>\n
According to the foundation's managing director Serrano
\nSianturi, about 120 children aged nine years to 17, as well as
\nfour children from four years to nine, will exhibit 300 works
\nfrom Thursday to Saturday.<\/p>\n
The exhibition is unusual because the photographs were taken
\nfrom the children's perspectives without adult direction of five
\nplaces across the capital.<\/p>\n
\"This will be our biggest exhibition, as these are a
\ncompilation of works through the medium of photography,\" he
\nadded.<\/p>\n
Ministers and other high-ranking officials are expected to
\nattend Thursday's opening.<\/p>\n
The exhibition is part of the 900 performances and events by
\nlocal and international organized as part of jakArt@ 2003.<\/p>\n
To close the exhibition, about 40 participants are scheduled
\nto speak on their concerns about the city.<\/p>\n
\"Children are the true owners of the future and so we have to
\nlisten to their real voices,\" Sianturi said.<\/p>\n
He said they were able to explore the \"other\" side of the city
\nthrough their \"innocent\" observations.<\/p>\n
In addition, the participants are encouraged to give arts,
\ndance or music performances to express their creativity on the
\nlast day of the exhibition.<\/p>\n
Photo exhibition, Japan Foundation, Sumitmas Tower 2, second
\nfloor, Jl. Jendral Sudirman, June 19 to June 21, 2003, 9 a.m. to
\n5 p.m. daily.<\/p>\n
