        "content": "<p>Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa has spoken out\nregarding a series of corruption cases ensnaring several regional\nleaders in her province. Since the regional heads who won the 2024\nelections were inaugurated in 2025, three regional heads in East Java\nhave been caught in the Corruption Eradication Commission\u2019s (KPK) hand\narrest operations (OTT). They are the Regent of Ponorogo Sugiri Sancoko,\nthe Mayor of Madiun Maidi, and most recently, the Regent of Tulungagung\nGatut Sunu Wibowo. \u201cActually, we have all conducted quite intensive\ncoordination (to prevent corruption from occurring),\u201d said Khofifah\nduring a break from attending the 80th anniversary of Muslimat NU in\nYogyakarta on Sunday, 12 April 2026. The woman, who also serves as\nGeneral Chair of the Advisory Board of the Central Board of Muslimat\nNahdlatul Ulama (NU), explained that for anticipation and prevention of\ncorruption, local governments even have a special communication group\nwith the KPK through the KPK\u2019s Coordination and Supervision for\nPrevention programme or Kosupgah. \u201cThere is also a group of regional\nheads with the KPK team, so actually (for corruption prevention), the\ndistrict\/city governments have been invited by the KPK to seek solutions\ntogether so as not to fall into corruption cases,\u201d she said. Therefore,\nif corruption cases still occur, according to Khofifah, it comes down to\neach individual. Khofifah explained that the KPK has actually taken\nproactive steps by summoning all regents and mayors in East Java one by\none for discussions and to find joint solutions in preventing corrupt\npractices. Even though these efforts have been carried out up to the\nprovincial government level, she regrets that there are still officials\ncaught in the anti-corruption agency\u2019s silent operations. \u201cAll\ndistrict\/city governments have been called one by one by the KPK (for\ncorruption prevention consultations), our hope is that everyone can\nmaintain clean governance and good management,\u201d she stated. Regarding\nthe ongoing legal processes, Khofifah said she can only fully respect\nthe supremacy of law and leave all decisions to law enforcement. \u201cBut if\n(corruption) has already happened like this, then hand over the legal\nprocess, because that is the KPK\u2019s authority,\u201d she said. The KPK\u2019s\ncrackdown in East Java following the inauguration of the 2024 election\nregional heads began with former Regent of Ponorogo Sugiri Sancoko, who\nwas caught in a hand arrest operation (OTT) in November 2025. Sugiri was\nensnared in a case of bribery for positions and hospital projects.\nMeanwhile, former Mayor of Madiun Maidi was arrested in January 2026 on\nallegations of extorting CSR funds and receiving gratuities worth Rp\n2.25 billion. The latest case drawing attention is the OTT against\nRegent of Tulungagung Gatut Sunu Wibowo, carried out by the KPK on\nFriday night, 10 April 2026.
