        "content": "<p>Surabaya (ANTARA) - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has\ncalled for strengthened brotherhood during the 2570 Buddhist Era (BE)\nVesak Day commemoration in 2026 as a means to preserve peace, social\nharmony, and cohesion at local, national, and global levels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmid global challenges marked by conflict, polarisation, economic\nuncertainty, and humanitarian crises, Dharma teachings emphasise the\nimportance of compassion, wisdom, self-control, and respect for others\nas the foundation for sustainable peace,\u201d Khofifah said in Surabaya on\nSunday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Khofifah, this appeal aligns with the 2026 Vesak Day\ntheme, \u2018Dharma for World Peace\u2019, which she deems relevant to current\nglobal needs for peaceful and harmonious living.<\/p>\n<p>She stated that efforts to maintain peace must begin with each\nindividual creating harmony within themselves, their families,\ncommunities, and society.<\/p>\n<p>Khofifah noted that East Java has long been recognised for upholding\ntolerance, mutual assistance, and harmonious living amid ethnic,\nreligious, cultural, and social diversity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of\nmutual respect, understanding, and assistance in communal life. These\nare the values we must preserve and pass on to future generations,\u201d she\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>She stressed that diversity is both a blessing and a strength of the\nIndonesian nation, which must be nurtured through tolerance and\nsolidarity.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, teachings of compassion and virtue are highly\nrelevant for strengthening social cohesion and contributing tangibly to\nglobal peace efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen communities live in harmony, respect one another, and\nprioritise humanity, we not only safeguard peace locally but also\ncontribute to global peace,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrent challenges demand greater empathy, solidarity, and\ncompassion.
