East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has launched the groundbreaking for the Tengger Caldera Ring Road (JLKT) in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, aimed at enhancing tourism management around Mount Bromo to make it safer, more comfortable, orderly, and sustainable. The 13-kilometre route, featuring rest areas, parking spots, and environmental safeguards like absorption wells, will distribute tourist traffic evenly, reduce environmental pressure, and boost local economic benefits while preserving the ecosystem and Tengger tribe's cultural values. This initiative aligns with national forestry policies, promoting balanced development that protects nature, strengthens culture, and improves community welfare.

East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa stated that the
development of the Tengger Caldera Ring Road (JLKT) in Bromo Tengger
Semeru National Park will realise a transformation in tourism governance
for Mount Bromo and its surroundings, making it safe, comfortable,
orderly, and sustainable.

“JLKT will serve as a connector between regions around the Bromo
caldera, as well as an alternative distribution for tourists to avoid
concentration at a single point,” she said during the JLKT
groundbreaking in Probolinggo Regency on Monday.

During the laying of the first stone for the JLKT development,
Khofifah was accompanied by the Director General of Natural Resources
and Ecosystem Conservation of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry,
Satyawan Pudyatmoko, the Head of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park
Agency, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, Probolinggo Regent Mohammad Haris,
Lumajang Regent Indah Amperawati Masdar, and the East Java Regional
Leadership Coordination Forum.

“In this way, pressure on the environment can be reduced, and
economic benefits can be felt more evenly by the community,” she
added.

“We are grateful that JLKT aligns with the TNBTS programme and the
Ministry of Forestry. Then we harmonised it with the cultural strengths
of the Tengger tribe, thus determining the routes,” she said.

She explained that JLKT can strengthen environmental carrying
capacity while keeping it intact. From the Bromo Tengger Semeru
ecosystem, there are customs and culture that serve as buffers and
guardians of preservation, followed by economic sources that can be
generated from maximising domestic and foreign tourists.

The development includes constructing a route spanning approximately
13 kilometres with a width of 18 metres, equipped with three rest area
points, four parking pockets, 9,725 route boundary stakes, and 60
absorption wells as part of efforts to maintain environmental
balance.

It is planned to have three rest areas with restrooms in each area,
and water sources will be prepared to meet the needs of the rest areas
and parking areas, so that tourists can enjoy the beauty of Mount
Bromo.

“Let us jointly oversee the development so that it truly provides
tangible benefits for the area and surrounding communities. We are
optimistic that in the future, the Tengger Caldera Ring Road will become
the new face of Bromo area management that is more orderly, more classy,
and globally competitive, yet firmly rooted in local values,” she
stated.

Khofifah also expressed appreciation and thanks for the Ministry of
Forestry’s programme, which continues to strongly commit to preserving
and optimising conservation areas as shared living spaces.

The East Java Provincial Government fully supports the direction of
national forestry development policies. Development in conservation
areas must be carried out wisely, not only oriented towards utilisation
but also protection of ecosystems, strengthening of culture, and
sustainable improvement of community welfare.

“With this development, it will realise a transformation in the
governance of natural tourism destinations towards a direction that is
more orderly, safe, comfortable, and sustainable,” she said.
",
