The previous supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali\nKhamenei, died on the first day of the military operations. His son,\nMojtaba Khamenei, was subsequently selected as Iran\u2019s new leader.\nIranian authorities have not announced any other changes in the nation\u2019s\nmilitary leadership.<\/p>\n<p>On 28 February, the United States and Israel launched attacks against\ntargets in Iran, resulting in damage and civilian casualties.
