Kerosene shortage hits Yogyakarta<\/p>\n

Kerosene shortages have been reported in at least two regencies
\nin Yogyakarta, since the holy month of Ramadhan began last week.<\/p>\n
Kerosene vendors in Bantul and Sleman regencies here
\ncomplained on Saturday that the supply of kerosene from
\ndistributors has been delayed for up to a week for unknown
\nreasons.<\/p>\n
Sutaryo, a kerosene vendor in the Minggir district, Sleman,
\nsaid on Saturday that the shortage of kerosene had occurred as
\nfar back as three weeks ago.<\/p>\n
Previously, Sutaryo had been supplied with 25 drums of
\nkerosene per month from a distributor, but two weeks before
\nRamadhan he could only get 10 drums of kerosene from the
\ndistributor. In the first week of Ramadhan the number was as low
\nas 5 drums per week.<\/p>\n
"Due to the shortage of kerosene, I have to refuse the demands
\nof my customers. I only sell it to customers who regularly buy
\nthe kerosene from me," he said, as quoted by Antara news agency
\non Saturday.<\/p>\n
Another kerosene vendor in Sleman, Suyati, said that the
\nkerosene shortage had put her in a difficult situation. "My
\nneighbors came to my stall several times to buy kerosene, but
\nthey always went home empty handed. I am afraid that they will
\nfinally suspect me of stockpiling the kerosene," she said.<\/p>\n
Due to the shortage of kerosene, the price of kerosene in
\nSleman has skyrocketed.<\/p>\n
The retail ceiling price imposed on kerosene by state owned
\noil and gas company PT Pertamina is Rp 890 per liter, but the
\ncurrent market price has already reached as high as Rp 1,200 per
\nliter.<\/p>\n
Antara reported that vendors in Bantul regency on Saturday
\nwere also selling kerosene at Rp 1,200 per liter.<\/p>\n
The vendors have blamed the distributors for the skyrocketing
\nprices.<\/p>\n
The distributors purchase the kerosene from PT Pertamina and
\nare obliged, under contract, to sell it below the ceiling price
\nimposed by the company. But the contract is often breached.
\n Also, the distributors often sell the kerosene to industries,
\nrather than vendors or households, as they can get higher prices
\nfrom the industries.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Sedayu police subprecinct in
\nBantul was still investigating two truck drivers, who were
\narrested two days earlier over their alleged involvement in an
\nattempt to stockpile 5,000 liters of kerosene.<\/p>\n
The two drivers, who were arrested in Sedayu district, Bantul,
\nwere Eko Sutriyanto, a resident of Gamping, Sleman,
\nYogyakarta, and Ramino, a resident of Kutoarjo, Purworejo,
\nCentral Java.<\/p>",
