        "content": "<p>Keroncong songs almost extinct?<\/p>\n<p>From Warta Kota<\/p>\n<p>Indonesian songs in the once popular keroncong mode, a blend<br>\nof local and Portuguese music, have almost disappeared even<br>\nthough they still have a fairly large number of fans.<\/p>\n<p>When I come across street musicians playing these songs, I<br>\ntell them that they are not just earning a living, but also<br>\npreserving an element of our musical heritage.<\/p>\n<p>Keroncong songs were released first on phonograph record in<br>\nthe 1930s by, among others, Jokim Tjan in Batavia (the former<br>\nname for Jakarta).
