        "content": "<p>Kepulauan Seribu regent nominated<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad Junaidi, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>City Governor Sutiyoso nominated on Friday the second<br>\ncandidate to hold the post as the first regent of Kepulauan<br>\nSeribu (the Thousand Islands), after the first candidate was<br>\nrejected by the City Council.<\/p>\n<p>Sutiyoso nominated East Jakarta secretary Dadang Kafrawi as a<br>\nreplacement for the other candidate, head of the city fisheries<br>\nagency, M. Rahardjo, who was considered incompetent by the city<br>\ncouncil.<\/p>\n<p>\"Yes, we only proposed one candidate. We are awaiting the<br>\ncouncil's approval,\" Sutiyoso told reporters after conducting<br>\nFriday prayers at City Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Before Kafrawi became the East Jakarta secretary, he had held<br>\nthe post of district head of the Thousand Islands.<\/p>\n<p>Sutiyoso hoped the regency could be officially inaugurated<br>\nsoon after the council had approved the city's new candidate as<br>\nregent.<\/p>\n<p>According to Law no. 34\/1999 on city administration, the<br>\nappointment of a mayor and of a regent should be approved by the<br>\ncouncil leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Binsar Tambunan, however, did not seem to be<br>\nenthusiastic about the new candidate for regent proposed by the<br>\ngovernor.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the council actually hoped that the<br>\nadministration would nominate a candidate who had experience in<br>\ntourism.<\/p>\n<p>\"Since the Thousand Islands will be developed as a marine<br>\ntourism area, the regent should have a tourism background. The<br>\ncandidate could have been selected from the city's tourism<br>\nagency,\" Binsar of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Experience in administrative affairs alone was not enough, he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>The inauguration of the Thousand Islands as a regency was<br>\ndelayed as the council did not approve the candidate for the post<br>\nof regent.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the council approved, by means of a bylaw that<br>\ndivides the Thousand Islands district into two, North Thousand<br>\nIslands and South Thousand Islands districts.<\/p>\n<p>According to a source at City Hall, Penjaringan district<br>\ndeputy head Usmayadi would be appointed as head of North Thousand<br>\nIslands district, while the Thousand Islands district deputy head<br>\nAnwar would be appointed as head of South Thousand Islands<br>\ndistrict.<\/p>\n<p>The fate of the current Thousand Islands district chief, Unu<br>\nMaknun, is not clear, the source said.<\/p>",
