The April disruption of rail services was unexpected. The
\nelectricity on the Jakarta-Bogor electric train was suddenly cut
\noff, affecting the line between the Pasar Minggu station and
\nTanjung Barat. A minor incident occurred at the Manggarai
\nstation, but I think it was not extraordinary under the
\ncircumstances.<\/p>\n
Regrettably, the railway management did not act quickly to
\ninform waiting passengers of the disturbance in services. The
\nsituation would have been different if this had been done, as
\nstranded passengers could have looked for alternative
\ntransportation.<\/p>\n
Instead, due to the insensitivity of the railway managers, the
\npassengers sat in the dark for two hours. They finally lost their
\npatience and started throwing stones at the railway office and
\ncanteen. This incident could have been avoided if only the
\ncompany were quick to act and considered the passengers'
\nfeelings. They could have provided a diesel train and explained
\nto passengers the holdup.<\/p>\n
I hope this incident will serve as a good lesson to the
\nrailway company in providing passenger services in the future.<\/p>\n
