        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Director General of Digital Ecosystem at the\nMinistry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi), Edwin Hidayat\nAbdullah, emphasised the importance of strengthening the aspect of trust\nin the digital realm (digital trust) to safeguard Indonesia\u2019s digital\necosystem from the risks of cybercrime.<\/p>\n<p>According to Edwin, the level of awareness regarding digital trust\ndomestically remains relatively low compared to the available\npotential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe digital trust market is only 9 per cent open out of a potential\n100 per cent,\u201d said Edwin in South Jakarta on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the low adoption is partly influenced by the\nlimited awareness of the importance of data protection and digital\nsecurity.<\/p>\n<p>Edwin likened the situation to the habit of overconsuming sweet foods\nwithout realising the impact because one has not yet felt ill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, it\u2019s the same with digital trust. Sometimes we do not feel it\nis important as an investment until we experience a loss,\u201d he\nstated.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted the practice of identity theft as one of the initial\nforms of digital crime, for example, using someone else\u2019s data without\npermission to activate telecommunications services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf someone takes another person\u2019s ID card data and uses it to\nactivate a mobile phone, that is one type of digital scam. That is\ncalled identity theft,\u201d said Edwin.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, he revealed that the level of public exposure to digital\nfraud attempts is quite high, reaching 65 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs many as 65 per cent of Indonesians receive fraud attempts at\nleast once a week, whether through email, SMS, WhatsApp, telephone, or\nsocial media,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The development of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI)\nalso brings new threats to digital security, for example, the misuse of\ndeepfake technology.<\/p>\n<p>In the context of AI utilisation, he emphasised that the risk of data\nbreaches is one of the main threats in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Edwin added that the implementation of technology, including AI, must\nbe accompanied by strengthening data governance that encompasses\npolicies, institutions, and technological support.<\/p>\n<p>He also affirmed that efforts to protect data and strengthen digital\ntrust cannot be carried out solely by the government, but require active\nroles from industry and society.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, cross-sector collaboration is key in curbing\ndigital crime while strengthening trust in the digital space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCollaborative efforts to combat digital fraud are a necessity,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>",
