Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital
(Kemkomdigi) and the Indonesian National Police (POLRI) are
strengthening collaboration between the two institutions, particularly
to accelerate action against digital crimes.

“This will certainly strengthen our work at Kemkomdigi, supported by
POLRI, especially in addressing crimes in the digital realm that are of
great concern to the public,” said Minister of Communication and Digital
(Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid at the Ministry of Komdigi office on
Monday.

Meutya stated that in recent years, crimes in the digital space,
particularly those related to the economy, have taken a significant
portion, including digital fraud, sexually based extortion (sextortion),
and online gambling.

According to her, numerous reports have been received by Kemkomdigi,
but when followed up, they require lengthy processes such as
correspondence between government institutions, which take considerable
time.

“The picture is that we agree on the acceleration of time in handling
digital crimes, especially economic crimes, which is very important and
urgent to expedite,” said Meutya.

Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo complemented the Minister’s
statement on the collaboration, stating that in the future, a special
team will be prepared to handle criminal incidents in the digital
space.

It is hoped that with the formation of this team, steps to address
criminal acts in Indonesia’s digital space can be more optimal and avoid
larger victims.

“To avoid larger victims, we certainly need a joint task force and
mutual agreement so that the steps can be more optimal,” said Police
Chief Listyo Sigit.

Educational steps are expected to help the public more easily
recognise access points when needing emergency security assistance.

“For 110, it is already quite widespread; if I’m not mistaken, all
regional police (Polda) have implemented it, but the public may not yet
be widely using the service. This was discussed, including from the
Police Chief’s side, regarding education to introduce this service,”
said Meutya.
",
