        "content": "<p>KEM owes Rp 5.4 billion<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Gold mining company PT Kelian Equatorial Mining<br>\n(KEM) in Kutai regency, East Kalimantan, still has an overdue<br>\ndebt of Rp 5.4 billion (US$2.26 million) to the local<br>\nadministration.<\/p>\n<p>East Kalimantan Governor H. M. Ardans said in the province's<br>\ncapital Samarinda that he had asked the provincial tax office and<br>\nmining office to coordinate their efforts to collect the debt<br>\nfrom PT KEM by the end of this month.<\/p>\n<p>KEM's debt included Rp 2.3 billion in mining fee for the<br>\nexploitation of 1.37 million cubic meters of andesite stones and<br>\nRp 1.7 billion for building a dam it has promised. In addition,<br>\nit has not paid taxes for the use of heavy equipments.<\/p>\n<p>KEM is 90 percent owned by CRA Ltd. of Australia and 10<br>\npercent by PT Harita Jayaraya of Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>KEM's gold exploitation concession covers an area of 700<br>\nhectares.
