        "content": "<p>Kelantan defends ban on lipstick<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (Reuter): The Islamic government of Malaysia's<br>\nKelantan state has defended its recent ban on the excessive use<br>\nof lipstick by women, saying that such practices were a prelude<br>\nto illicit sex.<\/p>\n<p>\"The early move by the (UMNO) leadership to stop money<br>\npolitics is similar to the ban on excessive use of lipstick which<br>\nis an early step towards fighting illicit sex,\" Kelantan chief<br>\nminister Nik Aziz Nik Mat was quoted yesterday by the national<br>\nBernama news agency as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Nik Aziz, who was speaking on Saturday night, was referring to<br>\nthe dominant United Malays National Organization's ban on all<br>\nforms of campaigning for party elections and its efforts to stamp<br>\nout vote-buying.<\/p>\n<p>Nik Aziz is also head of the northeastern Kelantan state's<br>\nMalaysia Islamic Party, known by its initials in Malay as PAS,<br>\nwhich seeks to create an Islamic society in Malaysia's only<br>\nopposition-ruled state.<\/p>",
