        "content": "<p>Keating to visit Malaysia<\/p>\n<p>CANBERRA (Reuter): Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating<br>\nyesterday said he would make his first visit to Malaysia in mid-<br>\nJanuary -- a move widely seen as helping repair the often rocky<br>\nrelationship between the two nations.<\/p>\n<p>Keating, who created a 1993 diplomatic row by calling the<br>\nMalaysian prime minister recalcitrant, urged both Australia and<br>\nMalaysia to cast aside old prejudices.<\/p>\n<p>\"Paradoxically, there are dangers in our very closeness and<br>\nfamiliarity with each other,\" Keating said in a speech launching<br>\nthe Australia-Malaysia Society.<\/p>\n<p>\"Precisely because this relationship is so old, it brings with<br>\nit a lot of preconceptions which can impede a clear view of each<br>\nother,\" Keating said when announcing the visit.<\/p>\n<p>\"I have no doubt that Australia needs to view Malaysia in a<br>\nnew way and that the same is true in the other direction.\"<\/p>\n<p>The Australia-Malaysia relationship has followed a rocky path<br>\nthrough the 1980s and 1990s.<\/p>",
