Keating to talk with Soeharto before APEC<\/p>\n
CANBERRA (Reuter): Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating will
\ntravel to Indonesia next month for talks with President Soeharto
\nahead of November's APEC summit, Keating said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
It will be Keating's fifth visit to Australia's northern
\nneighbor since becoming prime minister in 1991.<\/p>\n
Keating is scheduled to meet Soeharto on Sept. 17, after
\narriving in Indonesia from the Papua New Guinea capital, Port
\nMoresby, following his attendance at the South Pacific Forum and
\nPapua New Guinea's 20th independence anniversary celebrations.<\/p>\n
\"I will meet President Soeharto to discuss the APEC meeting in
\nOsaka in November as well as bilateral and regional issues,\"
\nKeating said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Keating and Soeharto are expected to meet on the resort island
\nof Bali, although that has not yet been confirmed, a spokesman
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Keating has repeatedly said in the past that no country is
\nmore important to Australia than Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Leaders of the 18-member Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation
\n(APEC) group are due to hold their third annual summit in the
\nJapanese city of Osaka in November to discuss trade
\nliberalization.<\/p>\n
APEC groups Australia, the United States, Canada, Mexico,
\nJapan, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia,
\nBrunei, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Papua New
\nGuinea and New Zealand.<\/p>",
