Jakarta (ANTARA) - Kazakhstan\u2019s President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has\nasserted that the United Nations (UN) remains a highly important\nuniversal organisation, even though its effectiveness is increasingly\nhampered by structural limitations that reduce the world body\u2019s ability\nto respond to global challenges.<\/p>\n
According to an official statement from the Kazakh Embassy in Jakarta\non Monday, Tokayev made these remarks while participating in a\nhigh-level panel session titled \u201cMapping the Future, Managing\nUncertainty\u201d at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum on 17 April 2026 in Antalya,\nTurkey.<\/p>\n
According to Tokayev, although there is broad agreement on the need\nfor reform, optimism for real change remains low.<\/p>\n
He spotlighted the UN Security Council as the primary issue, with its\nstructure and dynamics seen as barriers to institutional reform and\neffective decision-making.<\/p>\n
The Kazakh President also expressed concern over the growing trend of\nglobal conflict negotiations taking place outside the UN framework,\nwhich signals the marginalisation of its role.<\/p>\n
This trend raises doubts about the relevance of the multilateral\nsystem, he said, and prompts a review of the UN Charter because several\nof its provisions are deemed outdated.<\/p>\n
Tokayev also voiced worries about the weakening role of international\ninstitutions in handling conflicts, including the absence of visible UN\nleadership.<\/p>\n
He assessed that the global governance system is under pressure, with\nold mechanisms struggling to adapt to constantly changing geopolitical\ndynamics.<\/p>\n
In addition, Tokayev emphasised the importance of preventive\ndiplomacy by promoting efforts to anticipate and mitigate conflicts from\nthe outset.<\/p>\n
In his view, although it has long been discussed, its implementation\nremains limited because the international community\u2019s responses are more\noften reactive than proactive.<\/p>\n
He also highlighted the need to consider the impact of new\ntechnologies, including artificial intelligence, on international\ninstitutions and decision-making processes.<\/p>\n
The Kazakh President reaffirmed his support for multilateral\ndiplomacy, noting that its effectiveness depends on real reforms and\nrenewed political commitment.<\/p>\n
