Kasparov to visit Indonesia<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Professional Chess Player Association's
\nworld champion, Garry Kasparov of Russia, has expressed hopes of
\nvisiting Indonesia this year.<\/p>\n
A release from the Indonesian Chess Association said
\nKasparov's agent, Owen William in Palm Beach, Florida, hoped the
\nassociation could arrange a series of simultaneous matches
\nbetween Kasparov and some top local players during his visit.<\/p>\n
The association's executive director, Machnan Kamaluddin, said
\nhe would try hard to find sponsors to invite Kasparov.<\/p>\n
"If the country's economic disaster ends soon, it would be an
\nhonor for Indonesians, especially the Indonesian chess community,
\nthat a world champion as great as Kasparov wants to visit and
\nplay against our players," he said.<\/p>\n
Anatoly Karpov of Russia, Jan Timman of the Netherlands, Judit
\nPolgar of Hungary, Nigel Short of England and Yasser Seirawan of
\nthe United States are world top players who have visited
\nIndonesia in the last five years. (yan)<\/p>",
