Jakarta (ANTARA) - The management of Kampung Rambutan Bus Terminal in
East Jakarta has intensified safety roadworthiness inspections, or “ramp
checks,” on inter-city buses during the Eid 2026 migration surge.

“This bus ramp check is one of the measures taken to ensure all
vehicles transporting holiday travellers are in safe and roadworthy
condition,” said Kampung Rambutan Bus Terminal Head Revi Zulkarnain at
the terminal in East Jakarta on Sunday.

The inspections are conducted through a service post, one of three
established during the Eid transport period. The checks are conducted in
cooperation with the Pulogadung Motor Vehicle Testing Unit and the East
Jakarta Sub-district Transport Services.

According to Revi, inspectors examine three main aspects of each bus
before departure: vehicle documentation, principal vehicle systems and
ancillary systems.

Beyond documentation, inspections focus on the principal vehicle
systems that directly relate to journey safety. Components inspected
include brake systems, steering, wheels and vehicle lights. Revi
emphasised that there is zero tolerance for defects in this
category.

These principal systems are critical as they directly impact safety.
“If anything is not functioning properly, such as faulty brakes or worn
tyres, the vehicle cannot be dispatched and must cease operations,” he
said.

Meanwhile, inspectors also conduct checks on vehicle ancillary
systems. Equipment inspected includes first aid kits, jacks, warning
triangles, emergency glass-breaking tools and fire extinguishers.

“The equipment available within the vehicle becomes a mandatory
compliance requirement that every bus must meet,” he said.

Revi explained that inspections began in mid-March as part of
pre-holiday transport checks. Subsequently, inspections will continue
throughout the Eid transport period.

“Pre-holiday transport inspections have already begun. The Eid
transport period runs from 13 March 2026 to 31 March 2026,” Revi
said.

If critical system defects are discovered during inspection, the bus
cannot operate until repairs are made. If repairs can be completed
on-site and the vehicle is declared roadworthy, the bus is permitted to
continue its journey.

However, if defects cannot be repaired or if additional problems are
found in critical systems, the vehicle will be taken out of service to
protect passenger safety.

Through these inspections, terminal management hopes that all bus
fleets serving the Eid holiday migration are in prime condition,
ensuring travellers have a safe and comfortable journey.
",
