The space beneath the Kampung Melayu flyover in East Jakarta has\ntaken on a new look. It has been turned into a boxing arena as part of\nefforts to prevent street brawls.<\/p>\n
When detikcom visited the site at 10.58am on Saturday (17 October\n2026), the boxing facility was standing directly beneath the Kampung\nMelayu flyover. Its perimeter fence is white.<\/p>\n
The arena has two boxing rings and is also equipped with punching\nbags.<\/p>\n
Posters reading \u2018Kampung Melayu Flyover Boxing Camp\u2019, accompanied by\nimages of a boxing-glove logo, have been put up on both sides of the\nring\u2019s perimeter fence.<\/p>\n
East Jakarta Assistant for Government Affairs Bambang Pangestu said\nthe facility was built so the space beneath the flyover could be used by\nthe public. It was also intended to help prevent street brawls.<\/p>\n
\u2018This is to prevent brawls that have often occurred in East Jakarta,\nparticularly in the Jatinegara area,\u2019 Bambang said.<\/p>\n
He said the boxing rings were built in response to suggestions from\nseveral communities. Their construction also followed a directive from\nJakarta Governor Pramono Anung.<\/p>\n
\u2018The mayor followed this up by building the boxing ring at that\nlocation. It was also a directive from the Governor to set up a boxing\nring at the Kampung Melayu flyover,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
Bambang hopes the facility will reduce street brawls in Jatinegara\nand the Kampung Melayu area of East Jakarta. He said young people with\ntalent could use the ring to train instead of joining brawls.<\/p>\n
