KAMMI to sue PDI-P over brutal attack<\/p>\n
SURABAYA: The United Front of Indonesian Muslim Students (KAMMI)
\nplans to sue the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P)
\nand its supporters who attacked four KAMMI members on Friday in
\nMalang, leaving one in a coma.<\/p>\n
"We are collecting information on the case," Tulus Wahyono,
\none of KAMMI's lawyers, told The Jakarta Post on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The four KAMMI members were still being treated at the Syaiful
\nAnwar Hospital in the East Java municipality of Malang. One of
\nthem, Khoirul Anam, remains in a comma.<\/p>\n
The incident began when some 70 supporters of the PDI-P
\nflocked to the headquarters of KAMMI's Malang branch on Friday.
\nThey were looking for Rully Novianto, KAMMI Malang's branch head.<\/p>\n
KAMMI members had earlier burned PDI-P flags in a protest,
\nPDI-P Malang head Peni Suparto said.<\/p>\n
Rully was not there and the supporters became angry. They were
\nthen involved in a heated argument with some KAMMI members in the
\nheadquarters and began attacking them.<\/p>\n
As a result, four people were injured, including Khoirul Anam.<\/p>\n
Rully Novianto was questioned at the Malang Police
\nheadquarters on Saturday afternoon. Police said they were looking
\ninto the case.<\/p>\n
Peni regretted the attack but said PDI-P supporters could not
\nbe solely blamed.<\/p>\n
"Had KAMMI members not burned PDI-P flags in a recent KAMMI
\nprotests, the attack would not have happened," he said. -- JP<\/p>",
