But I feel there&apos;s something wrong with the government&apos;s<br>\npolicy on the forests. I know from personal observation that<br>\nhundreds of millions of hectares of forest in Kalimantan have<br>\nbeen destroyed without being replanted. Lately a plan to clear a<br>\nlarge forest area for oilpalm plantation has been discussed. This<br>\nwould be a big mistake.<\/p>\n<p>It is true that the project is aimed at enhancing the economic<br>\ngrowth and improving the wellbeing of Kalimantanese. But it would<br>\nbenefit only the present generation. The coming generation will<br>\nsuffer the consequences.<\/p>\n<p>In my opinion, the Kalimantan forest should be preserved for<br>\nscientific research purposes so that it can yield foreign<br>\nexchange without damaging the environment.
