        "content": "<p>Padang (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia Divisi Regional II Sumatera\nBarat continues to optimise services for passengers amid efforts to\nimprove fuel efficiency. \u201cWe are strengthening our role as an efficient,\naffordable, and environmentally friendly public transport mode, one of\nwhich involves optimising the use of subsidised fuel,\u201d said Head of\nCommunications for PT KAI Sumbar, Reza Shahab, in Padang on Tuesday. He\nnoted that from January to March 2026, KAI Divre II Sumbar recorded\nconsumption of 225,480 litres of subsidised fuel to serve 512,741\npassengers. \u201cThe utilisation of this energy is carried out in a measured\nand efficient manner to ensure that transport services continue to\noperate optimally amid limited energy resources,\u201d he said. He added that\nthe optimisation of subsidised fuel use is part of implementing Good\nCorporate Governance (GCG) principles, particularly in terms of\naccountability, responsibility, and efficient resource management. KAI\nDivre II Sumbar ensures that all subsidised fuel usage is transparent,\non target, and in accordance with applicable regulations, so that the\nbenefits are truly felt by the wider community. \u201cWith good corporate\ngovernance, every resource used can be accounted for while supporting\nthe sustainability of company operations,\u201d he stated. According to him,\ngovernment support through the Public Service Obligation (PSO) scheme is\na key factor in maintaining the affordability of train services for the\npublic. He explained that through PSO, the government provides subsidies\nto keep train fares affordable, allowing the public to enjoy safe,\ncomfortable, and economical transport. \u201cThe optimisation of subsidised\nfuel use by KAI Divre II Sumbar is part of the company\u2019s commitment to\nensuring that this government support truly provides maximum benefits\nfor the community, particularly in supporting daily mobility and\nregional economic growth,\u201d he said. Reza added that fuel efficiency has\na direct impact on the affordability of travel costs for the public.\n\u201cThe energy efficiency we implement has implications for more controlled\noperational costs, so the fares charged to passengers remain affordable.\nAmid fuel shortages, trains offer a cost-saving, safe, and reliable\nmobility solution,\u201d he stated. This efficiency level is considered very\ngood, given that train services in the Divre II Sumbar area cover\nmedium-distance routes such as Padang-Naraspula return trips, as well as\nthe KA Lembah Anai service between Padang and Kayutanam. The fuel usage\ncovers locomotive operations as the main driver of train sets and\ngenerator engines for onboard electricity needs, such as lighting, air\nconditioning, and charging facilities for passengers. Furthermore, Reza\nexplained that all diesel fleets in the Divre II Sumbar area are\ncurrently using B40 biosolar, a mixture of 60 per cent diesel and 40 per\ncent biodiesel. \u201cThe use of B40 biosolar not only supports operational\nefficiency but also contributes to reducing carbon emissions. This\naligns with KAI\u2019s commitment to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060\ntarget,\u201d he clarified. In addition to being more environmentally\nfriendly, this fuel also has characteristics that are easier to break\ndown naturally, thereby minimising pollution impacts on the environment,\nespecially around rail tracks. On the other hand, KAI Divre II Sumbar\nalso recorded the use of 65,900 litres of non-subsidised fuel allocated\nto support maintenance activities for facilities and infrastructure,\nincluding tools and machines for track maintenance to ensure train\ntravel safety is maintained.
