Medan (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) North Sumatra Regional\nDivision I has recorded a positive trend at Lubuk Pakam Station, with\nthe number of rail users on the Medan\u2013Lubuk Pakam route growing six per\ncent throughout the first half of 2026.<\/p>\n
Public Relations Manager of KAI North Sumatra Division I, Anwar Yuli\nPrastyo, said in Medan on Sunday that the number of passengers using\nLubuk Pakam Station during the first semester of 2026 reached 38,592\npeople.<\/p>\n
That figure represents a six per cent increase compared with the same\nperiod in 2025, when 36,243 passengers were recorded.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis increase reflects the increasingly vital role of Lubuk Pakam\nStation in serving the community\u2019s transport needs. Public trust\ncontinues to grow in rail services that are safe, comfortable, punctual\nand affordable,\u201d said Anwar.<\/p>\n
Anwar explained that Lubuk Pakam Station holds a strategic position\nin driving the region, as it sits right at the centre of the Deli\nSerdang Regency government. Its proximity to the Regent\u2019s Office and the\nDeli Serdang Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) makes the station the\nmain artery of mobility for civil servants (ASN), businesspeople and the\ngeneral public with administrative or operational business in the city\ncentre.<\/p>\n
Beyond its geographical significance, Lubuk Pakam Station also holds\nhistorical value in the development of railways in North Sumatra. The\nold station was built during the Dutch colonial era by the private\ncompany Deli Spoorweg Maatschappij (DSM) and officially began operating\nalongside the inauguration of the Serdang\u2013Perbaungan line on 7 February\n1890.<\/p>\n
This means the old station building is now 136 years old.<\/p>\n
In response to modern needs, the face of Lubuk Pakam Station has been\ntransformed into something far more contemporary. In 2021, the\nDirectorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transport\nbuilt a new station building with far more representative\nfacilities.<\/p>\n
The construction included a canopy roof and a high platform, so that\npassengers boarding and alighting at Lubuk Pakam Station can enjoy\ngreater comfort and safety.<\/p>\n
As a busy transport hub, Lubuk Pakam Station serves a high frequency\nof services. Each day, 14 scheduled train services stop at the station\non weekdays, rising to 16 journeys at weekends and on public holidays\nwith the operation of the Sribilah Fakultatif train.<\/p>\n
Various scheduled intercity and local trains serve the station,\nincluding the Putri Deli, Sribilah Utama and Sribilah Fakultatif trains,\nas well as the local Siantar Ekspres.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom Lubuk Pakam Station, customers have a wide range of travel\noptions and timetables for journeys to their intended destinations.\nThese options also cover service levels, ranging from trains with\neconomical ticket prices to those offering greater comfort with\nexecutive-class services,\u201d said Anwar.<\/p>\n
To support the station\u2019s strategic role as a bridge for public\nmobility, KAI Bandara, a subsidiary of KAI, is also strengthening\nconnectivity on the route by trialling four additional return\nMedan\u2013Lubuk Pakam services from 1 July 2026.<\/p>\n
